What we liked …

A burly beast of a stuff sack.

What we didn’t

Shame it’s not a dry bag, but then it wouldn’t open/close so easily.

The Verdict

OUR RATING

4 out of 5

THE SHORT READ…

An easy-to-use stuff sack, even in gloves, that’ll help you locate and keep your kit protected in a busy backpack/tent.

The Long Read…

There is a lot of thought that goes into Fjordalp designs, and their stuff bag is no exception. The Ecopak fabric is very tough, yet flexible enough to roll up small when empty. Like their crampon bag the functionality of the opening and closing is super easy to use, even when wearing thick gloves.

There are two loops, that’ll easily fit a gloved finger, that when pulled apart opens the bags top to its full width, allowing easy access when stuffing a coat into it. A simple pull of the loop string then pulled the bag snugly shut. There’s an extra layer at its base that while offering protection also doubles as a handle.

The bag is water resistant, to a high level, and is as much at home carrying a down jacket as it is with safely storing climbing hard-wear. The fabric is thick enough to store sharp (ish) kit, such as ice screws. All the internal seams and bound and stress point bar-tacked. The black opening surround feels like a nylon, and while allowing for a flexible open and closing is much thinner than the main body, I can only presume that the Ecopak fabric is a little too thick for this job. Although there is apparently tweaks coming to enlarge and strengthen the closing fabric.

With a Haglofs Spire Mimic Insulated Jacket

With Salewa Ortles Hybrid Jacket inside

I always take/wear a long sleeve Salewa Ortles Hybrid Jacket when touring, it’s insulated on the torsos front and back as well as the hood, while the arms and side panels are made of a thin stretchy material, I love this top; as it’s warm while skinning yet allows for another down or waterproof layer over the top, having said that I often take it off once the day warms up so a stuff bag for it is super useful. For reference this jacket fits perfectly into the medium Fjordalp stuff sack, which is now my jackets new home.

When I stuffed my Haglofs fully insulated jacket into the medium bag it did fit, but wouldn’t quite close completely, having said that my Bergans down (which is super warm, down quality 90/10, and medium in size ) easily fit with room to spare.

Bag weight/volume/price

Small 47g - 3 litres - £20

Medium 53g - 5 litres - £25

Large 76g - 7 litres - £30

SUMMARY…

As tough a stuff sack as you’ll find, which is designed with touring in mind.

If you’re into keeping your kit organised we’d strongly recommend this bag.
